Blog blog blog, och mycke folk påväg hem från jobbet idag.

Nu har jag överlevt första veckan på nya jobbet. Det är ingen liten quest att sätta sig in i alla system som finns där men i sinnom tid kommer nog det mesta att falla på plats. Nästa vecka kommer en pseudo-AppOp tillbaka från semester medans en annan försvinner. Ska bli spännande att se vad nästa vecka kan bjuda på.

Nu är det hemresa och jag har lyckats hitta en ledig plats längs med gången på en av SJs dubbeldäckare som förövrigt vart sen pga. okänd ”sjukdom”.

Så nu är allt frid och fröjd, ska hem och städa och slå en en present till Jessica. Well, allt är inte super, ett pucko sitter och målar sina naglar, mitt i det knökfulla tåget och tar för övrigt upp två säten, hon måste alltså vara mycke viktig…

Nee, nu ska jag kolla lite på flygvideos och fundera på om det är ställföreträdande födelsedag idag eller om det ska väntas med tills den riktiga på söndag.

RollOut 24-25 Maj 2008, eller kort och gott RollOut 08. (Ska se vad jag kommer ihåg, för det var en månad sedan det var, idag är det 21 juni.)

Så var det dags för Västerås Flygande Museum årliga flygshow. Planen var att jag skulle komma dit tidigt, kring 10 på förmiddagen. Självklart är tider till för att missas så jag trillade in kring 12:30 och fick veta att jag precis missat en flyguppvisning av små radiostyrda ”leksaker” =(, men det fanns bra mycket annat kvar att beskåda =D.

Efter en snabb cyckeltur ifrån Jessica till Hässlö blev man 100kr fattigare och en inträdesbiljett rikare. Väl inne skulle jag leta rätt på Magnus (a.k.a ”Öööhhh BILMANNEN”), tur att det finns mobiltelefoner, för det var rätt mycket folk. Men först hittade jag en modell av ett rotorhuvud som kom ifrån Hässlö Gymnasium, tyvärr så hade deras elever inte så bra koll på hur allt fungerade så jag blev inte nämnvärt klokare av att prata med dem =/.

Efter att ha mött upp Magnus blev det en vända in i ”hangaren” där det bjöds på en hel del gamla flygmaskiner och en del modeller. Första bilden är modell-flyget som jag missade med 10 minuter. Många av föremålen i hangaren var antagligen flygdugliga, men vissa var det inte. Bild 2-3 nedan visar cockpiten utan och med blixt på en av de öppna kärrorna. Titta först på den mörka bilden och lev dig in att du verkligen sitter i den, titta sedan på den ljusare och känn hur skönt det är att du sitter någon annan stans =).

Efter att ha tittat klart inne, och med lite stress från Magnus var det dags att gå ut i solen för att titta på showen. Utomhus fanns det även ett flertal andra föremål optisk konsumtion, bland annat ett fullt fungerande ånglok, en polishelikopter och lite flygplan.

Helt plötsligt blev det en ”w00t? WTF – hu? Vad är det där? Två katter?”. Det var vist luftakrobater som skulle hälsa lite på småbarnen innan sitt nummer. Det var inte bara barnen som verkade intresserade, såg nog ett par pappor som tittade hungrigt också…

Sedan var det dags för flyguppvisningen. Jag tittade intensivt i början men sedan började intresset glida mot den plats som var avsedd som parkeringsplan för privata plan, för att prata lite skit. Hittade både det ena och det andra, bland annat en Trike.

Sedan råkade jag fastna vid både Helicopter Assistance och VFK…

Ojj vad klockan sprang iväg, dags att kila hemåt, ska bara prata lite med en kille på vägen och Ojj då, får jag följa med när du ska taxi till hangaren? Tack =D :) Så nu har jag fått följa med i en rullandes Piper Malibu (Tror jag det var…) =D

Och sist men inte minst, hittade en snutt himmel som helt klart använts i introt till Simpsons.

Flygdag stog det, titta-lukta-kläm tänkte jag, eller i alla fall titta-lukta…

Mamma och hennes kille skulle på bilmässa, själv skulle jag på flygdag. Hade tänkt gå upp tidigt för att njuta av vädret och spana inflygningar, men så blev det inte. Vaknade frammåt nio och skulle då in till stan för att handla, men eftersom jag är lite långsam blev det hämtning med bil vid hemma istället… Sedan bar det av mot bilmässan/flygdagen…

När vi kom fram sprang morsan å Peter iväg för att kolla gammalt skrot från 70-talet (förlåt.. men för mig är det skrot…). Själv hittade jag en funktionär att fråga vart flygningen höll till. Så vi skiljdes åt för att sniffa på egna intressen.

Hittade ett tält som tillhörde flygningen med folk från Västerås Flygklubb, Västerås segelflygklubb och Helicopter Assistance AB, samt Fallskörmsklubben Aros. Passade på att fråga lite mer om utbildningar, även med folk från segelflygklubben, samt skryta lite om min brors bravader. (Tror i alla fall att det var representanter från de ovan nämnda klubbarna, annars ber jag kom ursäkt =D)

VFK (Västerås Flygklubb) (Och de andra klubbarna…) anordnar rundflygningar och spaka själv turer för allmänheten, men eftersom jag redan hade provat på att flyga tänkte jag att det nog får vara bra inför sommaren, eftersom man ligger på sparlåga till skolflygning.

När jag pratar med en man från VFK kommer det en pappa med barn som ska ut på flygvisning över stan och eftersom det nog inte är så rolig (eller flygsäkert) för ett barn att sitta själv så skulle de sitta tillsammans bak. Sätter man två personer bak bör man sätta två personer fram för att det inte ska bli felbalanserat (man kan hamna i spin då om jag förstått allt rätt) så fanns det en tom platts, och då tyckte dom att jag skulle följa med som barlast,,, så det blev en liten flygtur över staden också, helt klart oplanerat och ”episkt” roligt ;)

Sedan blev det självklart lite kort på Stefan och Emil bak i planet.

På platts fanns även EMFKs oranga Cessan 172, som jag spakat själv för ett tag sedan.

Utöver det så hände det inte så mycket. Det var en hel del fallskärmar som kom flytandes ner under dagen och en hel del in- och ut-flygningar att titta på.

Sammanfattat kan man väll sägas att dagen varit till mycket belåtenhet. Å lite senare ikväll hoppas jag att Jessica kommer hit och håller mig sällskap i skrivandets stund :D

I’ve gotten more info about VFKs PPL-A training prices, they sort of match those of EMFK.

I’ve also had a chat with my friend from my A step into aviation post the other day concerning which club to set as prio 1. In short we both like EMFK from our visit there, but I plan on making a trip to our closer neighbours (VFK) too. But with the locality of VFK, 20 minutes away on a bike, does a lot to the choice. So, unless there’s anything very unpredicted happening, we’ll probably try to get into our local club, with the exception that they’ve announced some concerns with finding pilots.

It looks like this baby will land somewhere around 75000 SEK, divided roughly like 15000 on September, 5000 for each month that’s passing until august next year, when there will be another 15000 falling away. These prices has been rounded to number easier to remember and I think the first expense would be more like 17000 or so… but I haven’t had anyone to confirm this yet… But the prices will look roughly the same for EMFK, but I have a more accurate plan from them… but we’ll see…

Fast mest av allt önskar jag att folk bara är glada och trevliga, precis som vanligt alltså =D

When one has set his goals it’s sometimes hard to see how to realize them. In my case the path is quite clear, the means are obvious and the costs are predetermined, but which club should I attend? I’ve been in contact with both Eskilstuna and Västerås flight clubs, I’ve even met some of Eskilstunas people… Where to go?

I have pretty good idea for the financial plan if I attend to EMFK (Eskilstuna Motorflygklubb), and I have a very VERY vague feeling about VFK (Västerås Flygklubb).

In a sense there some comfort in the knowledge I have from/with EMFK, on the other hand there’s a 32 minute train ride to get to Eskilstuna centrum, and then you’ll have to take a cab, some non existing bus or have a ride with a friend to the airport, this means that the airport is probably at least an hour away, maybe more like 2, as the train has its own timetable… And taking a cab would result in at least 1800 SEK, if I don’t share the it with someone else.

On the other hand, VFK is just a bike ride away, at tops like 20 minutes, and I don’t have to sync my life with SJ (trains). However, I haven’t met anyone from VFK yet. But they have more airplanes, which should be a good thing, n the other hand I’ve heard there’s a shortage of instructors here…

When comes the question about which aircraft is the best for training? VFK uses Piper Cadet (Piper Warrior trainers) and EMFK uses Cessna 172s (M and N). I’m not a pilot and I’ve only been in the Cessna, but from what I’ve read they are equivalent, giving you different challenges. The Piper Cadet is know to simply float over the ground instead of touching down, on the other hand you have a better view of the airfield when turning to final approach (I might use the wrong terms,, but still). The Cessna is harder to land with crosswinds (A wind that’s perpendicular to the airstrip) but this is also a good thing, as you’ll have to practice.

I think that the total price will be just about the same, EMFK might be slightly cheaper, but then comes the risk of having to take a taxi, and the longer traveling times. And the time saved when not traveling would help as there’s normal school to attend to too, and you have to catch the last train leaving Eskilstuna for the day too, so you can’t stay for too long after class.

Summing things up I’d say the difference is negligible… but the easier access to VFK is a big plus… but that EMFK feels as a safer card… VFK sounds a bit uncertain when asked if there’ll be any class, or more uncertain then EMFK as nether has decided yet.

Well, this was the thoughts of this morning, and a result from some searching last night… I’m not sure anyone will find this interesting, but it’s a good place for me to sum up things so that I can look at it from a 3ed persons perspective…

Also, how to tag this? What tags to use? Should I even tag it?

First off, this happened a few weeks ago, 15th March, anyway,,,

A friend of mine and I had vicious plans on how to spend a few bucks in a really short and fun way, how about flying? I’ve been playing with remote controlled helicopters for a while, and my brother’s even working on a private helicopter license, so what should stop me from entering the arena as well? NOTHING, I say NOTHING :D… So…

After a few weeks of emailing back and fourth with one of the flight instructors at Eskilstuna Motorflygklubb we decided that the 23th February would be a good date for our excavation.

Then the 23th came and the weather didn’t allow us to proceed so we stayed home in Västerås and decided on another date, the 15th March. I’m telling you, that was the longest 3 weeks of waiting ever, but the 15th came and the weather looked good (Or… the flight instructor called and told us that the weather was good ;)). So we walked our tired asses to the train and went to Eskilstuna where out instructor would come and pick us up with his car, as it’s over a Swedish mile from the train station to the airport… So the train arrived and we went outside to wait for the car…

The car arrives and out steps the instructor, a funny little man with a very confident look. The car ride went on without anything explicitly writable happening, other then making my stomach uneasy… the fact that soon one would be crammed into a tiny bucket of metal soaring a few hundred feet above the ground was awesome =D.

We arrived at the clubhouse around a quarter to eleven and sat down inside for a short talk and a look at the map and then we where off to the aircraft. The instructor did the preflight checklist and then it was time to enter the aircraft, a small Cessna 172M from, i think, 1973.

We decided that I would begin, fly for an hour and then change with my friend. I went through the checklist with some help from the pilot. I never knew that gyros spun THAT fast, with a high whining noise, then headset and some other things, Then came the engine, damn loud was it. Flying without ear protection is out of the question.

Taxing just up to the runway, some more checks, like spinning up the engine to 1800rpm (i think it was)… You could really feel how the machine tried to crawl it’s way out of the brakes,, It felt like a something that was trying to push it’s way out of a cave that was to small, don’t wanna be on the wrong side of the fan…

At the start of runway 18 the pilot/instructor took over completely and a minute later or so he gave the controls back and WOW!!! I was FLYING!!! AWESOME!!! I didn’t do anything too advanced, I’ve only flown 4 times before (back and forth to Bulgaria and Greece). This is now officially, As of that day I had flown for a longer time then I’ve driven a car.

Once in the air there isn’t much to say, some more pictures my buddy took.

We found a clearing in the clouds that we circulated up through, b e a u t i f u l =D.

Once on the ground we took a break, a real student came who didn’t have time to way for an hour came before Maiden (the friend) could take his turn, so we had some time on the ground, a walk over to a faraway hangar with an airplane who’s wings where about 5 feet to long to fit inside, then a long walk back to the club hangars, which was now open with 2 men inside so we took the opportunity to ask a lot of questions (at least I did =D)

Then our pilot returned and we prepared for our second flight, with me in the backseat this time, me and the camera :D.

This time the instructor showed us how it felt to stall, he had shown it once when I was flying before, but this time he showed how it felt when just one wing stalls, we even had the opportunity to feel both 2G and being weightless :D again, AWESOME :D.

Then the day came to an end, and we missed our bus stop, and by doing so we missed our bus too, and had to walk about two Swedish miles to the train station, where one was in the gutter of E20, that was about as tiresome anything could be, but the day was still amazing, but I missed a meeting and dinner with my mom, brother and god mother + family, which I’m really sad I did as I had been looking forward to it for a few weeks, and I’m really sorry if you read this!!!

Other then the unfortunate event with the bus stop that hide itself the day was as perfect as it could be,,,
